So it's official, I feel like a putrid pile of crap. Sunday afternoon I noticed a painful lump on my right breast, and it hurt a bit to nurse. It was a plugged duct. Seeing as how the care recommendation for a plugged duct is to rest, that's what I did. I layed on the couch and relaxed and nursed, and then layed in bed and relaxed and nursed.
Yesterday was surely going to be a busy day since my dad's surgery (remember his collar bone is in five pieces) was scheduled for the early afternoon, and Yitto was graduating that night. So in the morning I went over to help get my dad ready for his surgery, and pick up our tickets for graduation. The rest of the morning/afternoon was supposed to be for resting...I didn't want my plugged duct to turn into mastitis after all. So I tried to nurse babyjama, hoping that she would nap so that I could get some much needed down time. Nope. She wouldn't have any of it. In fact, she was probably MORE active yesterday than usual. I would bring her into the living room from whatever mischief she was getting into (playing in the dog water, pulling toilet paper off the roll, pulling up on the oven, trying to pick paint off the front door to eat), lay back down on the couch, and rest for about 10 seconds before having to repeat the whole thing.
By the time Papajama got home from work I had given up on letting her play independently. I was pacing the house with her in my arms. I figured that the continuous motion was exerting less energy than constantly getting up and down. My symptoms had worsened in that time, and I now had a red and inflamed breast, a pounding headache, and I ached EVERYWHERE.
Yitto's speech was the highlight of the entire graduation. She did a "Waitress" (You know that movie that has the actress who played Felicity in it) themed speech that was all about pie...Loved it! However, there were horrible things about the graduation too that I will have to get into at a later date.
By the time we left graduation I was feeling light-headed, weak and feverish. We went out to eat, and I only had two bites of my food before we had to come home.
Luckily I was able to get a pretty good night's sleep, and so I no longer have the fever. My head is still pounding, but babyjama is sleeping right now, so it's good to get a little time to relax. I don't know who came up with the fantasy that you can just climb into bed when you don't feel good and you have kids. That sure isn't how it works at our house.
